“30 minutes a day on 6-hour days is materially impossible to set up given the other subjects that have to be taught”, denounced Guislaine David, the co-secretary-general and national spokesperson for SNUipp-FSU, the main teachers’ union. A feeling shared by some teachers such as Sophie Dubosc*, teacher of a CP-CE1 class in a rural school: “Every time we add things to do, but we don’t reduce anything. »

“The children play, each at their own pace and according to their wishes. They can eat, chat, rest and play whatever they want. They use their imagination and the games at their disposal. Isn’t it the essence of recreation to be a moment of freedom? Is it necessary to convert this leisure time into sports activity? »

EPS or sports activity?
“We were told that the students had to move. But what do we put behind these activities? », wonders in a broader sense, Guislaine David. For Paul Bouvard, pedagogical advisor EPS in the Rhône, it is important to distinguish between profession and “the 30 minutes that are just exercise. » According to him, sometimes there is a “confusion between physical exercise and education in some teachers, due to their extremely limited training, putting the package on math and French”. Sometimes even hoops, rackets and balls are missing in schools. A difficulty that Virginie Soizic is likely to encounter if she wants to set up something around yoga: “A classroom has become available in the school this year and offers opportunities. All you have to do is figure out how to buy rugs…’
This observation prompts Guislaine David to ask himself a question: is it up to the school to restore this struggle against a sedentary lifestyle? “We have other levers, not necessarily related to school,” she wants to believe. Some schools, such as Cyrielle Millo*’s, have taken the initiative to contact service providers directly. “We have planned to organize at school level on a cycle cycle with the village association so that the students can come by bike as soon as possible”, says the teacher. This activity is added to the activities organized during breaks and after-school hours.
