DUBAI, July 26, 2022 (WAM) — In accordance with the guidelines of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Governor of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the aim of making Dubai a leading global economic center, and in line with the launch of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy by the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Government of Dubai has established the High Committee for Future Technologies and the Digital Economy established.
The Supreme Committee, chaired by the Crown Prince of Dubai, aims to help shape the future of artificial intelligence (AI) by investing in the metaverse and building partnerships to boost Dubai’s digital economy.
Commenting on the High Committee’s launch, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s farsighted vision has cemented Dubai’s status as a leading global hub for innovative new concepts and disruptive business and technology models by deploying cutting-edge technologies. in vital sectors to improve people’s living standards.
Sheikh Hamdan said Dubai is a global testing ground for technology and future business models aimed at creating new economic opportunities, making Dubai a hub of the global digital economy.
He added: “We are working as a team to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global cradle and research laboratory for future technologies and one of the world’s top ten metaverse economies, in line with Dubai’s metaverse strategy.”
Members of the High Committee for Future Technologies and the Digital Economy are the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy and Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama; the director-general of the Dubai Ministry of Economy and Tourism, Helal Saeed Al Marri; Dubai Digital Authority Director General Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori; the director of the Dubai Future Foundation, Khalfan Belhoul; Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, Ahmed Bin Byat; Dubai Development Authority Chief Executive Malek Al Malek; DIFC Authority Director General Arif Amiri; and the committee’s general rapporteur, Maha Al Mezaina.
The committee will formulate policies and analyze trends in the digital economy and future technologies, including Metaverse, AI, Blockchain, Web3, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Internet of things (IoT), data centers and cloud computing in Dubai. The commission will oversee the implementation of strategies related to the digital economy and future technologies in Dubai.
The committee will work to identify future skills needed for digital sectors and advise economic sectors on the digital economy. The commission will also monitor the performance of the digital economy and ensure its contribution to Dubai’s economy meets global benchmarks.
The committee also plans to attract international companies and conferences specializing in future technologies and the digital economy. In addition, it will establish strategic partnerships with entities active in the digital economy around the world.
Sheikh Hamdan launched the Dubai Metaverse Strategy to position Dubai among the top ten metaverse economies in the world. The strategy aims to make Dubai a global hub for the metaverse community and build on Dubai’s success, which has attracted more than 1,000 blockchain and metaverse companies. It also promotes Dubai’s ambitions to support more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030. This would further boost Dubai’s economy and support the UAE government’s vision of quintupling the current number of blockchain companies.
