Facebook starts testing some NFT features for user profiles

Shortly after Instagram announced its future support for NFTs on its platform, Facebook is following suit and is already starting to test this feature in the United States. Users will eventually be able to share their NFTs on the social network by connecting their wallets to them.

After Instagram, Meta launches NFTs on Facebook

While meta announced support for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Instagram last Maydoes the company seem ready to make this feature also available on Facebook.

According to a message from Navdeep Singhproduct manager at Meta, will it be possible for Facebook users to Post NFTs directly on the social network or to present them as a collection on their profile.

Meta, which clearly wants to capitalize on the transition to Web 3.0, will thus enable users of the world’s most used social network to link their wallet directly to the site.

Posts with NFTs can be commented, liked or even shared in the same way as the classic messages we already know that.

According to Mark Zuckerbergone day will it be possible to cross post on both Instagram and Facebook. However, this is a feature that is still in the early stages of development.

In addition, the social network would test some interaction features like chat rooms similar to those of the Discord platformfor example.

At the moment, NFT’s functionality test for Facebook limited to certain content creators in the United States. No date has been communicated regarding their planned implementation to the general public.

Many new features are expected

Last May, we learned that Instagram would support the Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC), and Flow (FLOW) blockchains. to introduce NFTs on its platform.

No details have been leaked on this topic regarding Facebook, but given the interoperability projects between the 2 platforms, everything suggests that the social network will follow the same path.

At the same time, Meta announced that its other applications, like Messenger or WhatsAppshould also see the arrival of features related to NFTs.

That’s what Mark Zuckerberg said recently: Meta worked on augmented reality NFTs (3D NFT), which it will be possible to introduce in user stories via Spark ARthe company’s dedicated software platform.

Meta also specified that to overcome the carbon footprint caused by NFTs, it would invest in renewable energy solutions. This also explains the choice for blockchains that work via the proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus.

Finally, depending on the company, sharing or publishing NFTs will be completely free. However, these cannot be used to advertise on the network.
