After two editions have been postponed due to the COVID pandemic, the French American Business Awards (FABA) will make their big comeback in person on Thursday, May 19 at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins hotel in San Francisco. Organized by the Franco-American Chamber of Commerce of San Francisco (FACCSF), this awards ceremony rewards companies and individuals for their exemplary achievements. † To be selected, these companies must be French or operated or founded by a Frenchman and located in the San Francisco area. recalls Anne-Emmanuelle de Boysson, Executive Director of the FACCSF. In general, these companies are judged on their balance sheets from the previous year, but with the COVID and small business creation in 2021, we have decided to include the year 2020 as well. †
Special price for Snowflake
For this seventh edition of the FABA, the FACCSF has chosen to play the continuity card by preserving existing categories and adding a new one to reward the promotion of French culture. † During the pandemic, culture has allowed us to escape and maintain a bond between us. The nominees are Cinéssance, Merci SF, the French American Cultural Society, the Théâtre du Lycée français and the Sacramento French Film Festival.
The award, which went to Personality of the Year, now has its own category, with several nominees: Geneviève Janssens (Robert Mondavi Winery), Stéphane Kasriel (Meta), Claude Le Tohic (One65), Julie Own (Stanford, Internet sans frontières ), Eugénie Rives (Alphabet’s moonshot factory).
† In addition, Snowflake will receive a special Business of the Year award: Thierry Cruanes, one of the founders of Snowflake, will be on hand to tell us about the company’s journey Indeed, Snowflake, which specializes in cloud data storage, made a sensational IPO in September 2020, with the title doubling in value on its first day of trading, to hit a record $3.4 billion IPO.
The nominee selection process began last December with the preparation of a list of potential participants, which is then finalized by two committees. † The categories are determined by these committees, as are the 4 to 6 listed for each of them. We take into account the turnover of companies, their innovative approaches, their diversity or their involvement in the French ecosystem of the region. “, explains Anne-Emmanuelle de Boysson. † We then put together a jury of experts who study each file and select the winners. The categories are: Tech with less than 50 million in funding or revenues, Tech with over 50 million in funding or revenues, Life Sciences, Smart Cities and Mobility, Sustainability, Wine Industry, Food Industry, Promotion of French Culture and Personality of the Year .
