The first NFT and Web 3 game console: daydream or craze?

Caution is the mother of safety – What crypto player wouldn’t dream of owning their NFT favorite on his own video game favorite? The community police, maker of web 3 infrastructures for blockchain games, tries the adventure and announces it is developing the console of the future: Polium One. Interoperability between blockchains, profit for holders, NFT, passive income, metaverse…: the console of the future is overflowing with promise. At first glance, everything seems perfect. This is without counting the adage crypto DYOR, Do Your Own Research, reminding us of the importance of expressing doubts about such an enticing project. Let’s decipher.

NFT game and web 3: a console that would make more than one dream

In early July, we learned that the company Polium presented its project for: Polium One console. This model is subsequently heralded as revolutionary, as it is compatible with NFT and adaptable to metaverse on DeFi, like Decentraland

Listed as compatible with 8 blockchains (Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, BNB Chain, ImmutableX, Harmony, EOS and WAX), would be the console cryptocurrency own (its own token) PLAY), of a marketplace as well as his digital wallet

Little information is available on a technical level. Apparently 4K or 8K Ultra HD 120fps resolutions are available to choose from. At first glance, the controller promises to have several interesting features:

  • A wallet button to facilitate transactions (allowed thanks to the PLAY token);
  • A fingerprint scanner to optimize device security.

To get the console you need a Polium Pass NFT10,000 these passes are beaten (made) for this console’s first steps in the ecosystem. New price is unknown at the moment. Going forward, the company plans to sell 1 million 3.0 consoles and therefore counts on accessibility to expand its audience to that of gaming.

“The console will be powerful enough to run high-performance games and will be easy to use for a traditional gamer who doesn’t understand Web 3.”

Polium One, the mirage of the web 3.0 console

Quick, the reviews however, it started to rain. In particular, the console was mocked for its likeness exaggerated with Nintendo GameCube† The reception is also very mixed in the game world.

Furthermore, the lack of professionalism of this emerging project stood out for its disagreement. Lack of moderation, questions from the community about the project being a scam: the ingredients seem to be there to decide to investigate.

First, we tackled this GameCube logo and look-alike thing. Opened on social media on July 2, we then found this tweet from July 4.

“We did not copy Nintendo’s GameCube logo. Several companies use a similar logo. But we will design new original logo. †

Tweet from Polio

We know how much the branding (and more specifically the logo) have a strategic importance in the field of marketing. As such, this story, seemingly without gravity, can nevertheless be interpreted as the first symptom of a flawed project.

Moreover, the RoadMap raises questions. Fuzzy and without a really precise date, it nevertheless outlines the path to be followed for the project. It is a real backbone, traditionally determining for investors and certainly in such an industrial project. It should be remembered that outside the crypto-economic context and macroecincredibly delicateinterrupted by the syncopated increase of linflationnot, the creation and industrialization of a large-scale console represents a mammoth task requiring years and billions of dollars. For example, in 2015, the PlayStation 5, Sony’s latest gem, was conceptualized. So the project has taken more than six years to put its console, as we know, on sale in a limited way. She was also soon a victim of her own success.

A white paper that will make you grumble

Our reverie then turned into a kind of nightmare. While wandering around the site, we stumbled upon the white paper. We’ve read it. Bad idea. From the beginning, the paper – should be – holy informs us:

“This white paper is intended for a reader with a non-technical background. We are currently working on a whitepaper with more technical details, which will be published on our website shortly. †

Good. That is. Let’s move on. The white paper then briefly describes the website and incorporates most of the information… from the website. No idea has not been developed with regard to services offered on the cryptocurrency wallet. The PLAY token rewards associated with NFTs are briefly discussed and the term “Bet” appears once in a bulleted list.

The market analysis of the millions of potential users is also a dream, but it is does not mention source† So the numbers and statistics for the future look like vulgar counter-forethoughts. Finally, the white paper concludes with the frequently asked questions (FAQ) used on the website.

Even a little inquisitive, therefore, it seems curious that a failed projectfor now anyway — could have spilled so much ink. On paper, the console is certainly a dream. NFT, metaverse, web 3 and cryptocurrencies: Polium is surfing the ingredients that make the world of blockchain attractive. On the other hand, the absence of a CEO behind the project or any other representative leaves us in doubt. Fair approach or dubious project? Anyway, this console is here to remind us of theimportance of doing your own research to avoid the pitfalls of web 3.

Stay away from spammers and scammers. Avoid offers that are too good to be true like the plague and get into the habit of being sane with suspicion. On the other hand, learn to place reasonable trust in respectable and recognized players in the ecosystem. The FTX platform definitely falls into this second category.
