In France, the area’s 24 business and management schools compete ingeniously to attract their prospective students, including more than 10,000 preparatory students. In Marseille and Bordeaux, KEDGE Business School’s educational and supervisory teams welcome approximately 4,600 of them at the end of the school year. At the beginning of the school year, only 545 will participate in the Grande Ecole program. Immersion in one of the permitted oral mornings, at the Luminy campus in Marseille.
“Discover the school and its values”
On a background of electronic music, it is ping pong and video games. At first glance, not enough to distinguish the slightest pressure from a decisive morning for the approximately thirty suitable students on site. Only the costumes and high heels nevertheless make it possible to identify those who are about to pass interviews to integrate the school at the beginning of the next school year. Estelle Fatien, general manager of the “Team Admissibles” at KEDGE, guides them. † Since February we have been preparing for their arrivalsummarize them. We are here to answer their questions and offer activities to discover the school and its values. †
From April to the beginning of July, more than a hundred admissions – general managers, assistants and staff members – thus welcome students in preparation or parallel admission (after baccalaureate, on file, etc.). At almost 23 years old, Estelle wants to give them the “KEDGE experience” during their stay. To do this, preparation for orals, tournaments, escape game, karaoke, visits to the campus, the city and the creeks, presentation of courses and community life, dinners in the restaurant… So many activities and entertainment that allow candidates to evacuate the stress of oral exams and soak up the atmosphere of the Marseille campus. If they want, they can even stay with one of the student volunteers. † The idea is that they want to join the school and share our experiences. Three years ago I was in their shoes myself, so I know their needs well! ‘ continues the manager.
For her part, Léa, a preparatory student, begins her tour of France in management schools. Early this morning she had her motivational interview with the KEDGE jury. The young Lyonnaise plans to work in marketing. † I think it is a dynamic school with a friendly atmosphere. The reception this morning gave me a good idea of the values of the establishment! †
A double seduction game
† You have to seduce them as much as they are seduced by KEDGE », Brice Doback-Nguyen presents. Like a real conductor, he and his team organize the orals and their logistics for all suitable candidates. † We are not the only decision makers. If they pass at the end of their oral exam, they choose their school. » A 30 minute motivational interview and two oral presentations in a foreign language are the mandatory steps before you can become a member of KEDGE. † In this way we can assess the coherence of the candidate’s project, gauge his way of thinking, his maturity… It is above all a discovery conversation, more focused on the student himself. †
The jury, consisting of a school counselor and an Alumni (KEDGE graduate) or a business partner, aims to identify profiles that match the business school. † We need people who have values that match our own, such as curiosity, humility and courage “, describes Aurélie Dehling, director of the PGE (Grande Ecole Program). This morning in the amphitheater on campus, she welcomed the candidates. † First, I explain to them how to choose a management school wisely, without necessarily promoting KEDGE, the director says. Then I present to them the aims of my work, which consists in part of recognizing the students. That’s what they look for when they go to a Top 10 school. †
To make a difference and in line with its new pedagogical attitude, “Grow By Doing ®” (learning by doing), the school is also committed to bringing an original and active population into the labor market, with concrete, ” well beyond the speech and sleeve effect, shaped to act and be useful to society adds Aurélie Dehling. A scope that maximizes the employability of graduates. † I am convinced that today’s management school students are no longer the same as they were twenty years ago. More and more of them want to both assume a certain comfort of life and participate in changing the world, by thinking differently. †
Until then, eligible candidates will have to wait until the end of July to get their results. More info at www.kedge.edu
