Announcement of the first “NFT game console”

A new console aimed at “Web Games 3” was announced and immediately met resistance from some gamers.

Web3 Polium claims that its “Polium One” will be “the world’s first multi-channel game console” that can run games based on different series.

“The console will be powerful enough to run high-performance games and will be easy to use for traditional gamers who don’t understand Web 3,” said Polium.

The console, which according to Polium will be released in the third quarter of 2024, can only be pre-ordered by players who purchase the “Polium Pass”, an NFT on the Ethereum network of which 10,000 will be minted.

According to Polium, the console will include a fingerprint scanner for security and a “wallet” button to give players quick access to a multi-chain console wallet designed to “trade, exchange, store and use crypto-change.” receive”.

While Polium admits only four people are working on the hardware, it also claims the console will be capable of 8K HDR at 120 fps and ray tracing.

The announcement has drawn much criticism and skepticism from a number of gamers who are at best unconvinced of the benefits of blockchain gaming, and at worst believe it to be a scam.

Some have also pointed out that the console logo appears to be upside down on Logo Cubes.

The company responded on Twitter: “Sounds familiar, but the GameCube has the letter G and the cube represents its name. “Our cube represents the blockchain, while the P represents Polium.”

Even the newly created Polium Discord server, which appeared to be launched without any moderation, was not without criticism.

On Discord’s “Scam Alert” channel, which was probably set up to allow users to report possible NFT scams, a number of users simply replied “that’s the whole project”.

In the “Ideas and Comments” string, the first comment simply says, “Give it up.”

Polium has now released a statement on Discord regarding the initial response, accusing some of being “FUD,” an acronym meaning “fear, uncertainty and doubt.”

“We have received confusion and criticism about our ability to implement,” the statement said. “Just to be clear, the four of us are building the working prototype of the console and controller.

“We have experience in hardware and software development. We are currently creating the power tree for the console map. We should have a working prototype by November or sooner.

“We will show the prototype live on YouTube or have a trusted influencer show it all. The prototype will prove that the console can run games that are on different blockchains and built in different programming languages.

We will not receive any pre-orders/funding until we have shown the prototype and the community is interested. Once we have a working prototype, we build the control unit for production.

Regarding the lack of confirmed games, the statement said: “There will be console games and we will make announcements soon. We are currently in talks with game developers.

“As for the logo, we didn’t copy it from the nintendoLogo GameCube. But we are listening to the community and we will hire a new illustrator to design a more authentic logo for us.

He concludes: “Some of you aren’t all that excited about Web 3 and are just there to entertain and mislead. But we’re going to ban people. Anything is possible when you’re excited about a problem. We deliver to you. Stay tuned. †
