Metaverse: progress or catastrophe?

By Tom Benoit, philosopher and essayist

Stand. As an introduction I must give my definition of this devil or dream called the metaverse, whose name is immediately thrown around a meeting, a luncheon, on a television or radio set, the ‘we would like to conclude that it is a matter of innovation , the future, money, back and forth and future smiles.

Progress and disaster are two sides of the same coin, Hannah Arendt told us.

The metaverse is nothing worse, and nothing more, than a digital beyond – a version of the digital that no longer requires the presence of the screen, allowing you to feel, smell, touch and not just see. in the metaverse, perception becomes belief and representation will, or at least pretend to be.

I mentioned it to the JT of LCP a few weeks ago since the Meta Entertainment World, the world’s first metaverse summit that took place in Monaco last April, like any entity, the metaverse consists of a body that is both structures and an energetic body.
The hologram is the body of the metaverse, the crypronomonias are the energy segment. Within every field, in every microcosm, a body hierarchizes and energy circulates; this is the case in industry, in cinema, in love stories or even in economics, certainly more than elsewhere….

It is only necessary to understand that a currency is nothing more than an energy reserve, that the traditional monetary system draws its energy from the movements that people on Earth deploy, work, exchange, and that in the metaverse no energy production can ever be activated.

Burning as they are, fantasies are not lived passions; as believable as it may seem, the Metaverse will never replace reality.

Therefore, it will be necessary to continue tapping the energy of humans to animate the metaverse and thus build metaverse territories, metaverse real estate. Architecture is a concrete art and real estate an essential sector; the metaverse will not displace either.

Incidentally, in addition to the consequences of the dramatic, one-off and recurrent conflicts that accentuate the tragedy of our society, I would like to point out that if there is an energy crisis today, it is mainly because the world’s population does not have more!

In addition, the metaverse should be expected to fit well in the real world, as a management system to assist a civilization that has become digitally dependent.

The metaverse will also initially allow to secure certain crypto currencies. The sustainability of this depends on the reliability of the partnerships that are established. The alliances between cryptocurrency companies and metaverse operators will allow to materialize by calculating a perfect virtual economic scheme.

The exchange between cryptocurrencies and metaverse territories, controlled and owned by companies belonging to the same environment, will follow a virtuous circle over time that will organize a system that, a priori, does not depend on any insurance that is caused. by an underlying utilitarianism, as has hitherto been the case for an economic system governed by market law.

On the other hand, for those wondering how credible an investment in metaverse real estate is, I declare that the value of virtual parcels is not comparable to a real estate investment, but will not be less reliable than an investment in life insurance. A banknote in itself is worth nothing; the value that states and banks around the world assign to it gives it all its appeal. This will be the case for metaverse areas when the market is officially defined and locked down, as the internet, monetary system, real estate market, stock market, etc. were before.
