Animoca Brands Has $1.5 Billion in Crypto and Blockchain Gaming Assets in 340 Investments

Animoca Brands said it has portfolio investments worth $1.5 billion in crypto and blockchain games at 340 companies.

The blockchain gaming company has made some of the biggest bets on the next generation of blockchain games that use technologies such as non-replaceable tokens (NFTs) to authenticate unique digital items.

The company, listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, posted bookings and other revenues of $148 million for the fourth quarter ended December 31 and $573 million for the four months ended April 30, 2022.

Animoca Brands owns blockchain gaming companies including The Sandbox, Gamee, nWay, Blowfish Studios, Grease Monkey Games, REVV Motorsport, TOWER, Quidd, Lympo and Forj (formerly Bondly), in addition to blockchain services revenue from portfolio investments and partnerships.

Reservations include token sales, NFT sales, including secondary sales, and other non-blockchain activities. Other income includes gains/losses on investments and possession of digital assets. The company has a cash balance of $98 million and $211 million in digital assets, including USDC, USDT, BUSD, ETH
and BTC in late April.

Other digital assets include $659 million third-party tokens. And it has digital asset reserves of $4.2 billion – which are not reflected on the company’s balance sheet. These pools include Animoca Brands SAND, UMAD, QUIDD, PRIMATE, REVV, TOWER, GMEE, and other tokens.

In terms of recent business highlights, the company has acquired Grease Monkey Games, Darewise, Eden Games, Our Game and Be Media to strengthen and expand its gaming and Web3 capabilities; and it acquired a notable education technology company to be announced shortly.

Animoca Brands has also established new joint ventures including AniCube with Cube Entertainment, MetaHollywood with Planet Hollywood and OneFootball Labs with OneFootball. He collaborated with Yuga Labs on the Otherside project, the Bored Apes Yacht Club’s metaverse game.

Animoca Brands has acquired developer The Sandbox Pixowl for $4.875 million.

It has also minted NFTs that allow owners to participate in building Otherside and claim virtual plots of land there once it launches publicly, setting the record for the largest mint NFT ever.

The company partnered with ApeCoin DAO and launched ApeCoin (APE), launched the PRIMATE token, the gaming token for earning the company’s mobile game Benji Bananas and is connected to the ApeCoin ecosystem.

In addition, Phantom Galaxies, developed by subsidiary Blowfish Studios, closed private sale of Planets for $19.3 million and began public sale of Planets. And Animoca Brands has expanded its presence in Japan by establishing its strategic subsidiary Animoca Brands Japan with a $10 million financing round.
