A change of mind about NFTs
Kanye West seems to have changed his mind about Web3 and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Last January, the rapper, producer and fashion designer shared an image on Instagram a handwritten note written on white paper: ” Don’t ask me to do a fucking NFT “. Before adding at the bottom of the page: ask me later †
Despite this mood swing he seems to have changed his mind now if we stick to it trademark applications filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office†
In reality, Kanye West’s Mascot Holdings Filed 17 Trademark Applications with US authorities on May 27. Among these brands, some mention the terms “non-functioning assets”, with reference to NFTs, and “metaverse experiences”.
One of the requests concerns the possibility of ” provide an online marketplace for buyers of collectibles, coins, tokens, and crypto and digital assets †
The American Trademark Attorney Jos Gerben, founder of Gerben Intellectual Property, who registered more than 7,000 trademarks on behalf of his clients, discovered the deposits and tweeted about them:
Kanye West has filed 17 new trademark applications around his YEEZUS name.

As the lawyer points out, all requests are for using the YEEZUS trademarkwhich was both the name of the rapper’s 2013 album and the name of one of his tours.
Is Kanye West preparing his own crypto and NFT exchange platform called Yeezus? We’ll know soon.

Trademark applications still very vague
While this may spark the curiosity of many of the rappers and crypto fans, it is not yet clear what the purpose of these trademark registrations is. Unfortunately, requests contain only very short descriptions potential product offers and do not give details about: types of NFTs that Kanye can sue West or further? the kind of metaverse experiences that he could offer.
Applications also cover: a wide range of potential products outside the crypto spaceincluding clothing, video games, retail, amusement parks, cosmetics and more.
American rappers are interested in Web3
If Kanye West wants to join the Web3 domain with NFTs and the metaverse, it’s because other top American rappers have already expressed an interest in it.
Snoop Doggfor example, published numerous NFTs and collaborated with The Sandbox, a metaverse based on the Ethereum blockchain. He also wants to do from the famous American label Death Row founded by Dr Drethe 1st label for NFTs and the metaverse.
Snoop Dogg also claims to be the pseudonym of Cozomo de’ Medici, a high-quality NFT collector.
Last January, noted rapper Eminem purchased an NFT from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection for $450,000.
nas is another American rapper who quickly became interested in this universe: he was an early Coinbase investor and released musical NFTs through the Royal platform.
