TM Roh, President & Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, plans to promote his group’s ecological fiber by exploring innovative solutions for all Galaxy devices.
– How did the sales of the Galaxy S22 go?
We are very happy as the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series have received more pre-orders in the first week than any other Samsung smartphone and tablet to date. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 series have doubled compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 series, with the Galaxy S22 Ultra generating over 60% of that sales.
On the tablet side, pre-orders for the Galaxy Tab S8 series also doubled compared to the Galaxy Tab S7 series, which this year stars the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
Meanwhile, in Morocco and parts of North Africa, we are seeing a 25% increase in sales of S22 compared to S21. I am confident that the Galaxy S22 series will be one of the best-selling devices in the Middle East and North Africa, thanks to our efforts to better serve the needs of our customers.
– During the launch of the Galaxy S22, you announced that you were going to use recyclable products. How did this change go for the company?
We cannot push the boundaries of technology without recognizing the impact of our actions on the world around us. Guided by its vision of sustainable development, “Galaxy for the Planet”, Samsung puts a positive impact on the environment at the heart of its innovations. The Galaxy S22 series represented a crucial step in this journey: it is the first smartphone to integrate recycled marine plastic made from fishing nets left in the ocean. We also continued to use recycled plastics in key parts of our Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Book 2 Pro series.
Samsung is committed to increasing the use of recycled materials across its product line. By doing so, our use of recycled plastic dumped into the oceans could prevent more than 50 tons of discarded fishing nets from ending up in the world’s oceans by 2022 alone. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved so far, but our work continues and cannot stop there. We will continue to research and test creative and innovative solutions for all Galaxy devices to help preserve the planet for generations to come.
