Over the past few years, space has undergone a particularly significant development, whether in everyday life applications (telecommunications, navigation & positioning, bank transfers, Earth observation, etc.) or in military operations. This strong growth is not without security questions.
The Air and Space School (EAE), in conjunction with the Space Command (CDE), the National Center for Space Studies (CNES), and the National Office for Aerospace Studies and Research (ONERA), offers you a Specialized Master®” Defense and security in space (MS DefSiS). This high-level dual degree (BAC+6) civil and military, and open to the international will enable graduates to assert a sought-after expertise in space and security.
A major military and aviation school also focused on space, the Air and Space School (EAE) trains all officers of the Air and Space Force. About 700 officers are trained annually. A true command school, it prepares future military leaders to train both on national territory and in areas of operations, with discernment and a keen sense of responsibility.
The Air and Space School, a major school, is a “Grand Establishment type (EPSCP-GE) public institution of scientific, cultural and professional nature”
The Air and Space School develops:
- leadership qualities Essential for holding a first job in an operational environment: calmness and reflectiveness, conscientiousness, sense of responsibility, availability, perseverance, assertive personality and sense of action;
- the ability to work in a team;
- the sense of values: respect, integrity, sense of service and excellence.
The master “Defense & Security in Space” aims to train civilian and military executives with an integrated vision of the security of space systems in civil or defensive space operations.
The skills developed under the MS® DefSiS will give privileged access to the areas of analysis and advice within industries, government agencies or companies related to the operation and use of civilian space systems and military in their security dimension.
This expertise can be used in particular in the context of the research or development of a space program, the implementation and operational use of a space system or even the analysis, prevention, monitoring or crisis management.
Thanks to this excellent education, graduates will be able to:
- integrate the security dimension into mission design and use of civil or military space systems;
- setting up an analysis of the risks, vulnerabilities and threats of missions in the entire chain of a space system;
- analyze the spatial situation based on the available data to identify the criticality of situations and interpret abnormal behaviour;
- propose solutions in the context of a defensive strategy;
- advise and contribute to decision-making in the civil and political-military fields of space operations.
Supported by prestigious organizations, industries and start-ups, this training draws on the expertise of the teachers of the School of Air and Space and of many professionals to deliver a dynamic program that combines theoretical contributions, active and innovative pedagogies, like serious gaming, scenarios, simulation and the realization of a group project that is carried out during the training. The program includes numerous visits to operational sites, space systems and industrial sites.
The program is designed for French or international students or professionals with degrees in different disciplines: aeronautical engineering, computer science or science, but also political science, law, economics or management.
This specialized master recognized by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles is open to students with a BAC+ 5 or a BAC+ 3 level with professional experience in the field. This course, in English, represents a total volume of 450 hours, spread over seven modules covering a wide range of topics.
At the end of the theoretical training, the professional thesis of 4 to 6 months will also be the privileged moment to expose the trainees to the space environment. They receive assignments in industrial institutions and organizations or partner companies. They will also be able to exchange with professionals about trades and possible opportunities. Big names in the French and European aerospace industry and start-ups have already expressed an interest in hosting interns and graduates.
