Sopra Steria Academy makes progress with onboarding and training

How ESN Sopra Steria’s in-house training center explores the potential of the business metaverse from an onboarding and training perspective. Focus with Adrien Kéruzoré, Digital Learning Manager at Sopra Steria.

The education starting to get its marks from an angle of enterprise metaverse† The digital services company Sopra Steria is developing a virtual campus in France for integration seminars through its in-house training center.

But this is just the beginning of an increasingly immersive exploration. Based on Manzalab’s Teemew technology (virtual offices, team meetings, onboarding and training), Sopra Steria Academy started a reflection for:

  • know how to extend this virtual campus format to other training offerings or events,
  • how to extend the experience to other Sopra Steria countries with the first identified projects: India, Switzerland and Spain.
  • switch to a metaverse dimension with an environment that is permanently open to employees.

What is the configuration of the virtual campus launched through the Sopra Steria Academy training center?

We have started an experiment with the virtual campus to run our integration seminars from mid-2020 with the support of Virbela in 2020, then from mid-2021 with Manzalab who has developed Teemew technology to create 3D environments on demand.

Against the background of the Covid-19 pandemic and the confinements, this virtual campus has taken the residential form of the seminars we had adopted, that is, the rental of an outsourced physical space to host a two-day event . †

At Sopra Steria, the rule is: all newcomers complete this training within the first three months of joining the group.

According to the hiring schedule, virtual campus integration seminars have been held for 1,800 new employees since mid-2020, and we plan to maintain this format at least by the end of 2022:

  • Per session we are in a range of 130-150 employees on the virtual platform for two days;
  • At an average rate, we have planned 2 integration sessions per month until the end of 2022.

Given the current hiring rate of our group, which aims to recruit 3,800 new employees by 2022, this is a way to welcome and integrate them in the best conditions. And this without taking any external growth operations into account.

In the case of Sopra Steria, which has 58 branches in France, we are in the context of the gradual return to the establishment of employees. The use of the virtual campus is justified in this case. Rather, the reflection is to know how to extend this virtual campus format to other training offerings or events.

Virtual campus: soon accessible via internet browser

How do you run a virtual campus in two days?

The social dimension is important.

The work schedule is busy, but we try to make this moment as friendly as possible. Through the development of the virtual campus, we offer different sequences to vary the activities between listening sessions, co-construction workshops and moments of informal exchanges with colleagues and speakers to build a network.

We integrate strong moments such as speeches from Comex members and top management in a virtual auditorium to present the company project.

For example :

It is also possible to invite external advisors. We did this for a workshop on the theme of the learning organization. An animation team of 4 people from the start-up Massive Immersive will be present on the virtual campus for two days. The animation team also provides a first level of support, to overcome technical difficulties or access to the virtual campus, while Manzalab provides level 2 support.

Which KPIs do you monitor with the virtual campus?

We conduct post-event evaluation surveys on the perception of the virtual campus and the thematic workshops offered, allowing us to gradually improve the teaching sequence.

We have a workflow in our LMS that allows us to send a satisfaction survey to our employees who have participated in the training.

Can the virtual campus take on a metaverse dimension with an environment that is permanently open to employees?

We configure virtual spaces according to educational use

We are considering this lead. We preferred to organize one-off seminars with our first partner service provider, Virbela. We negotiated the virtual campus shift with Manzalab. This platform allows us to project ourselves further.

On March 15, 2022, we hosted the first day of the coexistence of several simultaneous events:

  • an integration session,
  • a management learning session,
  • a kick-off meeting of the group’s L&D community.

We configure virtual spaces on campus based on educational use. A common virtual hall allows to cross and meet people in the form of avatars. We are also starting to extend the virtual campus experience to other Sopra Steria countries with the first identified projects: India, Switzerland, Spain.
