The Business Booster, the event where large groups and start-ups invent the energy of tomorrow

The adventure started in 2013 in a hotel in Barcelona. That year, 25 startups from the energy sector gathered in the Catalan capital to present their products and services to major accounts and to reflect together on the synergies to be explored. The meeting was the first edition of The Business Booster, organized by EIT InnoEnergy. Since then, “the TBB” – as the enthusiasts call it fondly – has grown considerably: last year no fewer than 155 innovative companies held a stand in Paris while 1,200 participants walked through the corridors of the Palais des Congress. Over the years, the number of visitors has diversified, always including the partners of EIT InnoEnergy, but bringing together all players in the energy ecosystem, across the entire value chain.

2020 will be no exception to the rule, despite an edition inevitably disrupted by the coronavirus. In Berlin, the participants reflect on “the new industrial revolution† †The Business Booster 2020 takes a step aside to have a vision ofset of the industrial revolution, exploring the economic, political or environmental context associated with the redesign of sustainability, electrification and digitalizationunderlines Elena Bou, director of innovation at EIT InnoEnergy. lHistory shows that the discovery of new technologies can stimulate disruptive innovations with decisive effects on the economic development and the social fabric ofa region,a country or an entire society. The energy transition has brought about a change of paradigms, a change in the way we look at the energy system, the actors and the technologies used. It therefore brings about economic and social changes.

Open innovation as a goal

Like every year, the event combines inspiring conferences on the future of the energy sector and startup booths to foster connections with corporates in the sector. †Accessing the market is always difficult for a startupElena Bou remembers. The Business Booster was originally designed with theidea ofoffer theopportunity for innovative companies tostart ‘conversations’ with potential customers or partners and bring and accelerate new innovations to market.

Last year 2500 professional meetings took place during the two days of The Business Booster. †The selection of startups is highly qualifiedpraises Jean-Michel Reynaud, Engie’s Director of Startup Relations. Some projects are riskier than others, but the quality is always there.

Interaction with thewhole ecosystem

The Business Booster is therefore the perfect opportunity for energy experts to keep an eye on the latest innovations in the sector… and to work closely with startups that own the technologies that may interest them. †The directions of theinnovation of companies must very quickly bring new solutions to the market and adopt new business modelsdescribes the innovation director of EIT InnoEnergy. To speed up this process, startups are valuable allies. The Business Booster provides a common ground to partner and work together. It’s a win-win situation.

All the more easily the participants will find the shoe that suits them when all the players in the sector are present: start-ups of course, but also thematic investment funds and other energy heavyweights. †For the innovation departments, cis a unique opportunity to do sourcing or meet specialized funds because the whole ecosystem is there”, testifies Jean-Michel Reynaud. Who wouldn’t want to miss the 2020 edition for the world, which will take place in Berlin on November 4 and 5.
